Experiences of volunteering
What does volunteering mean to me?
I want to tell you that I have been working as a volunteer for some time now, but until now I have not felt as good or proud as I do now. I owe this to the Progressive Women’s Federation (FMP) and the people that have chosen me.
You could not imagine even for a moment how I feel participating with this group of women; I feel fulfilled, alive, and happy to see what I am able to do and share with other women. I wanted to help other women that, like me were in a delicate situation, but in return I also received help from them, and this for me has been both a pleasant and satisfactory experience.
It is well worth it to be a volunteer, if only to taste the satisfaction that is felt in certain moments, I feel like I am receiving so much in such instances. I never feel alone while participating in the classes with these women, always learning something new from each one. I feel very proud of all of them, for the manner in which they welcomed and accepted me to their group; and we continue to grow in both number and familiarity. I want you to know that I am there to offer my hand in support, even though sometimes it may be difficult, I hope I can meet your expectations. Thank you to the FMP and to the people that have put their trust in me.
What does it mean for me to volunteer with the fmp?
To me being a volunteer entails dedication, solidarity and the opportunity to act without the expectation of anything in return, only to serve with the satisfaction of knowing that you have contributed to the social, cultural or human well-being of some one in need.
There are various private and public organizations dedicated to supporting and promoting changes in the social and cultural structures of the country, each specializing in actions with different characteristics and motivations, but all with a common goal. In this sense it is necessary to know the range of our knowledge, sensitivity, availability, etc. All this works to facilitate the participation and the support that we are able to provide as volunteers. This means that for the action of volunteering to be carried out effectively as a true, altruistic labor it is necessary to truly identify with the objective of the organization with which we collaborate.
The basic reasons for my personal participation and integration with this particular group of volunteers is simply to know that I possess something that others need, that I can give to them, that I can help them, that I can help to better their lives and that in some moment somebody’s smile is a result of my actions. The satisfaction felt from this is greater than any reward.
Do not forget that the universe revolves around us like a great snowball, collecting everything in its path, constantly growing. Why not contribute good deeds to this cycle so that all can benefit from it?
What does it mean for me to volunteer with the FMP?
Volunteering allows me satisfaction that stems from my usefulness towards people in need through the simple gesture of employing my knowledge and some of my free time for the benefit of others.
